The Arklies-Arkleys-Arklays - are an old Angus family whose forbearers came from the Lennox Country. In Angus they held the estates of Ethibeaton and Duinald. The name of the progenitor of the family was Arkyll which is derived from the Norse, Arketil. From "Ari" eagle and "Ketill" kettle or sacrificial cauldron. Crest - two thistles, orlewise, vertflowered gules, in center, a rose. Motto - Bene qui sedulo (He acts well who acts zealously).
